When the Volkswagen Group took over Škoda Auto in 1991, the company was producing approximately 180,000 cars a year of a single model range – Favorit. Within 14 years of Group involvement, the formerly local manufacturer of a single type of car turned into a prosperous and renowned company, producing three models ranges and 450,000 vehicles a year sold in almost 90 markets all over the world.
